AML / KYC policy
Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money-Laundering (AML) procedures are how Senerum verifies who you are and keeps the platform out of reach of financial crime. This policy explains what we check, what we ask of you, and why it protects your account as much as it protects us.
1. Introduction
The purpose of KYC is to confirm that each client is who they claim to be, using genuine documents and truthful information. The purpose of AML, and the related counter-terrorist-financing (CTF) obligations, is to prevent the platform being used to launder criminal proceeds or fund prohibited activity. Together they form the checks UK financial-services rules expect of firms connected with digital assets.
Verification is not a hurdle we tolerate reluctantly; it is a service feature. A platform where every account is identity-checked is one where stolen cards, takeovers and impersonation are harder to pull off. The procedures below are aligned with applicable UK requirements for client onboarding, ongoing monitoring and suspicious-activity reporting.
2. What KYC is
KYC is the process of identifying a client and confirming the authenticity of the data they provide: you supply your name, date of birth, address and contact details, supported by documents, and we check that the details are consistent, the documents genuine and the presenter their true owner.
Verification is completed before trading is activated and before any withdrawal is paid, so that by the time money can move, the account already belongs to a verified person.
3. What AML is
AML covers the wider programme around KYC: assessing the risk each client and transaction pattern presents, monitoring activity over the life of the account, and reporting genuinely suspicious activity to the relevant UK authorities. Risk assessment considers the origin of funds, the countries involved and whether activity matches what the client told us to expect. Monitoring is ongoing rather than a one-off gate: a profile that was ordinary at onboarding can become concerning later, and the programme is designed to notice.
4. Why identity verification is required
Verification serves four purposes. It prevents fraud by making accounts with stolen identities or cards harder to open. It protects existing accounts, because an imposter who cannot pass verification cannot hijack a withdrawal. It fulfils the legal obligations that apply to services of this kind in the United Kingdom. And it lowers risk across the platform by keeping criminal proceeds out. Every client completes the same checks, from the first pound.
5. Documents required
To confirm identity, we accept current government-issued photographic documents: a valid passport, a UK driving licence or a national identity card where issued. To confirm address, we accept a bank statement or utility bill issued within the last three months, or a council tax bill for the current year, in your name at the address you gave us.
Where a check cannot be completed from documents alone, we may ask for a selfie or liveness capture that proves a living person is present, matched against your document photo. Biometric checks are requested only when needed and kept only as long as required. Documents can be photographed on a phone; clarity is what matters, all four corners visible, nothing obscured. Blurred or cropped uploads are the most common reason a check is delayed.
6. The verification process
Registration
You create the account with your name, email and phone number; no documents yet.
Documents and details
You upload your identity document and proof of address, and confirm your details.
Automated check
Systems validate the documents and cross-check the details. Most checks conclude here.
Manual review if needed
Where the automated result is inconclusive, a trained reviewer examines the case.
Outcome confirmed
You are notified in the platform and by email, with reasons if anything more is required.
7. Enhanced due diligence
Some situations call for enhanced due diligence (EDD): larger deposits, complex source-of-funds situations, ties to higher-risk jurisdictions, or activity that does not match the expected profile. EDD may involve documents evidencing the source of funds, such as a salary statement or sale contract, more detailed questionnaires, or senior approval of the account.
EDD is applied on risk, not on nationality, and being selected for it is not an accusation: it means the file needs more evidence, and we will tell you exactly which.
8. Verification timelines
Most automated checks complete within minutes during business hours. Cases needing manual review are typically resolved within one to three business days, depending on request volume and the clarity of the documents supplied. If a check remains open beyond three business days, contact us and we will tell you where it stands. Delays most often come from expired, cropped or unreadable documents, or a mismatch between the name on the document and the name on the account; fixing those before submission is the fastest way through.
9. Reasons for refusal
Verification can be declined or suspended for specific reasons: documents that are invalid, expired or unreadable; details that do not match across documents; suspicion of tampering; failure to provide requested information within a reasonable period; a connection to a sanctioned individual or entity; or refusal to complete a requested liveness check. A suspension is often curable: we state what is missing, and you can supply it. Where verification is finally declined, the account is closed and verified funds are returned to their source.
10. Transaction monitoring
Once an account is live, monitoring continues: deposits, trading patterns and withdrawals are assessed against your declared profile. Patterns suggesting third-party use, structuring of deposits to stay under thresholds, or sudden unexplained changes may prompt questions or a temporary hold on specific functions. A hold is a pause for information, not a punishment, and is lifted once the picture is clear. We cannot disclose every rule behind monitoring, but we can always tell you a review is happening and what we need from you.
11. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for providing accurate, current and genuine data and documents, and for updating your details when they change, a new address, a new surname, a new phone. Knowingly providing false information, using another person's identity, or allowing a third party to operate your account breaches this policy and the Terms of Use. Consequences range from re-verification to account closure and, where the law requires, reporting to the authorities. Funds in a closed account are returned only to a verified source in your own name.
12. Storage and protection of data
KYC and AML records are stored encrypted, with access limited by role and logged in an audit trail. Retention follows legal requirements: identity records are kept for the period UK rules require after the relationship ends, then securely destroyed. The Privacy Policy governs all personal data, not only verification records.
13. Data sharing
To run verification and monitoring, data is shared only with the categories of recipients the task requires: KYC providers that check documents, IT providers that host and secure the systems, affiliated companies involved in delivering the service, and regulators or public authorities where disclosure is required by law. Sharing is limited to the minimum necessary, under contracts that protect the data. We do not sell verification data or share it for marketing.
14. Compliance framework
Senerum complies with applicable UK requirements for client onboarding, identity verification, record-keeping and complaint handling under UK financial-services rules, with personal data processed in line with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. The regulatory basis is on the Licensing and regulation page, and procedures are reviewed as rules evolve.
